Since PISA’s inception in 2000, Canada consistently ranks in the top 10 in all three domains out of all participating OECD countries. In fact, Canada ranks ahead of the systems in the US and the UK because the OECD measures an entire country’s system, not just hot spots of excellence which are not accessible to all due to geography or cost. In the vast Canadian public system, every child has access to quality schools. The educational system of Canada is also highly equitable by PISA standard, combining high level of inclusion and fairness. In addition to this ranking that demonstrates the academic excellence of Canadians, we can confirm that Canada is a world leader in bilingual education.
As educators, we have a responsibility to nurture the next generation of leaders. At Maple Bear, we teach personal responsibility inside the classroom as part of your daily routine and global awareness outside of it. Soft skills and character building are just as important components of the curriculum as are academic subjects. We believe that to face the challenges of the future, we need young people who can think critically and solve problems creatively beyond having good academic performance. The Maple Bear program teaches tolerance and mutual respect from the earliest years, integrates leadership explicitly in the later years, and consistently encourages students to participate in community service and social responsibility initiatives.
Canada is a pioneer among the countries that adapted their education system to the concept of 21st-century skills. Since 1994 the state has applied a methodology fully focusing on learning the key skills for future success. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) identifies 12 Skills (Skills of the 21st Century) divided into three groups. The objective is to give children the capability of effectively adapting to a fast-changing environment. It focuses on several competencies such as critical thinking , creativity, problem-solving and innovation. Life skills (Flexibility, Leadership, Productivity, Risk Taking, Social skills) Learning skills (Critical thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication) Literacy (Information, Media, Technology)
Bilingual education is the use of two different languages in the classroom instruction of academic content. At Maple Bear, students study all academic subjects in either their native language or a second language, depending on the subject and grade level. Research shows that immersion is the best method of learning an additional language. Children learn in the same natural way that they learn their first language.
Maple Bear schools are registered as local schools conforming to the local education regulations, offering fully articulated local curricula in addition to the Canadian program and Canadian teaching methodologies. Our students are local citizens with a global mindset. They are prepared and capable of moving easily between the Canadian system offered by Maple Bear and their own country’s system and can do so at any time during the K-12 years.
The curriculum is created in Canada by Canadian experts, the Maple Bear Faculty. The Faculty is a distinguished team of 150+ expert Canadian educators. Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfill their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child's experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future opportunities. Maple Bear sets high standards to ensure children's readiness for elementary school.
Maple Bear has developed an excellent, hands on, rigorous and relevant elementary curriculum in each subject area based on the highly successful Canadian approach to learning and instruction. The Elementary Program is designed to educate the whole child - physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.
The Maple Bear Middle Years program reflects current research in adolescent education.
